about

Well, Jesus Christ.
This is a large, and completely unnecessary collection that I assembled because of one three a.m. thought that I had about a week ago;
Which of my songs have I played solo live?
With the Mess, or on the rare occassion that I do a full solo set, it's common practice to play a handful of the same material over and over, and occassionally sprinkle in new, old, or weird shit. However, open mics are a different animal. Open mics are for experimentation, fun, and release. So, playing a few of these a month, I'll try out new material, revisit old songs, or noodle around with what might eventually become a song. Perhaps not the majority, but a large portion of this collection is pulled from those recordings.
The sound quality, though I spent a brief amount of time cleaning it, does vary and sometimes wildly so. The sources range from a professional soundboard to a room mic, a cell phone to video cameras of varying qualities and formats.
Though I tried to uncover at least one recording (and in the face of choice, the best or most interesting) of each original song I played in the last few years, well, I don't record everything. A lot, but not all. Sometimes recordings become lost, ruined, or entirely unusable. Still, I did not anticipate a 2 1/2 hour, 39 track live record.
Along with a myriad of unincluded covers I know I also performed the following; "Let the Sunshine Die", "So, Where's My Love Song?", "Jesus Christ, Todd", "Keep Your Love to Yourself", "I Don't Know", "Like Before", "Intro/Untitled Song from MTA", "Forest Fire", "Half a Year", "Just", "Fuck Off Dude", "Give Me Something to Want", "Fighting All Night", "Optimism", "Jude Fawley", and many, many more.
To me, there is no real interesting thing about this collection, and after completing work on it (hitting save at the end of this note and uploading it all will be the end), only six days have passed since I thought it up and it remains a masturbatory, if not slightly neurotic waste of my time. If there is something here that you enjoy, well, good, of course. And if not, I completely understand, because I'm not sure if there is anything here that I enjoy either. I imagine I'll put out another volume or two in a few years though.
